Land speed records have been made, broken, and made again, but this one is going to be iconic. For the first time, a land vehicle will go beyond 1,000 mph. A former pilot from the RAF, Andy Green hopes to pilot the Bloodhound SSC to the awesome speed of 1050mph. At that speed, the vehicle will move at a speed, 1.4 times that of sound, and shatter the existing speed record by more than 200mph.
It’s another three years before the 42-foot contraption attempts to pass the 1000mph barrier. A scale model will be put on display at London’s Science Museum today. The £10million project is currently looking for sponsors. Crazy for speed as humans are, the funds shouldn’t take very long to come by.
