There are few cars that can claim to have one many, many races and to have ruled the tracks across North America for almost a decade. Surely modern cars do not qualify for that accolade as it seems each year anew model comes up to compete and technology is progressing at such a breakneck pace that few cars can be competitive over a period of couple of seasons let alone a decade. The only F1 demon that could do that to an extent was the Ferrari in 2006 which was equally competitive the next season, though one must remember that it was the Red Barron behind the wheel!

The 1095 Allard J2X though is a car that can claim to be a winner for a considerable amount of time. The J2X was a track legend throughout the 50s, and along with the Allard J2, it won hundreds of races in North America alone. A number of engines were available, including Chrysler, Mercury and Cadillac V-8s. The J2X also featured a tubular frame. The picture was sent in by Roger Allard and it looks as stunning as it did in its prime!

It is sad that the racing cars these days have such a small lifespan. It is almost as if we are taking history away from them. The days when all cars were more or less similar and winning depended on the driver’s skill largely were really the good times. The J2X is a symbol of those times.
