Club Racer inspired Honda S2000 CR will be added to the 2008 Honda lineup. The roadster is designed keeping in mind the growing popularity of open track day events and club racing events. S2000 CR gets a more track-oriented suspension settings, aerodynamic-enhancing bodywork, higher rigidity and reduced weight.
S2000 has a 2.2L 16-valve DOHC VTEC 4-cylinder engine mated to a six speed manual transmission. The engine provides a power of 237hp and a max torque of 162lb-ft. Convertible soft-top of the S2000 gives way to an aluminium hardtop in the S2000 CR. S2000CR rides on Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires.
S2000 CR is lighter than the S2000 by 51 pounds with its hardtop and 99 pounds with the hardtop removed. The CR also gets a sport-tuned muffler. The interiors follow the racecar theme and get yellow stitching for fabric seating surfaces and synthetic suede bolsters. A ‘peak power indicator’ in the instrument panel finds room at the right side of the digital speedometer and illuminates when the engine reaches peak power.
In a bid to reduce weight, the company has done away with air conditioning and an AM/FM/CD audio system for the S2000 CR. These systems are standard with the S2000, but will be optional with the S2000 CR. Considering that most of the drivers like audio systems and air-conditioning in their car, the company could perhaps have found other ways to reduce weight rather than doing away with these systems.
