If I were a car collector I would have never let an opportunity of collecting a classic go by and if I did miss one, tell you what, it would have been a sad day. Alas! Money Rules. And so when I talk about a Ferrari, which is the only one remaining from its league, I give somebody else the opportunity to mourn, probably a collector I believe, who feels the same as me and has more in his pocket to support the cause.
The 1950 Ferrari 166 MM touring is owned by Manny Arroz of Diablo, Calif., is an extremely rare example of how fascinating just such a car can be. Twenty five Barchettas were built with the 2.0 liter, V-12 engine found in this car. They were the successful racing cars, winning the Mille Miglia and LeMans in 1949.
This car sat untouched in the Arizona desert for the last 40 years and is the only unrestored Barchetta known to exist. Later Arroz disassembled it, cleaned it and returned it to running condition. It was rebuilt exactly as it was found.
The Barchetta was displayed at the recent Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, finally a place where this gem got recognition.
