When you first take a look at the VW Beetle, you would think that the windup key at the back of the car actually does something. You would think that maybe it will spin along with the wheels, store energy and give it back to the engine. I thought maybe the Beetle was converting mechanical energy in to work. But then I realized that I was thinking too far ahead of things and that the car is not as great as it was imagined to be.
In all reality the Windup Key is a complete hoax. It’s just a simple attachment for your car. The Windup Key comes in two shapes: circular or oval. Similarly, you can opt for your key to be free spinning, something which spins freely in the wind, non-spinning, or motorized (using a 12V motor allowing 30 revolutions a minute). All models come powder coated in sparkling silver and consist of two pieces, allowing you to remove the key for, say, car washes. Optional colors and finishes are available. Installation requires an hour of time, a few drilling, and some screwing.
It is available from a base price of $100 and upwards and frankly speaking I think it is both a waste of time and cash. It is a bit like the cartoon world coming to life. While I love being a kid, I think this could actually have been a lot more. Maybe that is the reason I am a tad bit disappointed.

That’s a cool VW beetle. I also like its auto body part, from the fender down to its wheels.
