A gathering of cars is what we absolutely don’t miss on Automotto. That’s what we auto buffs crave for, don’t we, seeing loads of those vintage rubies all at a stretch is always a pleasant site, a site which reminds us of the engineering marvels of the times of yore and takes us through a journey of the automotive world.
To add to the high tone of ours was a gathering of Maseratis on the 63rd Columbus Day annual parade. Maseratis’ have always been the gems from Italy and to see them all gathered in New York marking a grand occasion, just illuminated the entire affair.
In a very unique display of Italian fineness, the Maseratis ranged from a one-off, 16-cylinder Maserati Spyder, which set the world record in 1929, to a 2007 Quattroporte Automatic four-door sedan that goes from 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds.
Automotive enthusiasts also had a chance to win a 2008 Maserati GranTurismo in an exclusive raffle which benefited the scholarship programs of the Columbus Citizens Foundation, which organizes the Columbus Day Parade. The GranTurismo raffled was among the first 10 of Maserati’s latest model to be imported into the United States this year.
Amongst the ones present there was the 1929 / 1931 Maserati Spyder - V16 which was definitely the first supercar, a 1953 Maserati A6GCS MM Spyder, a 1955 Maserati A6G54 GT Frua Berlinetta, a 1958 Maserati 3500 Vignale Spyder, 1960 Maserati 5000 GT, a 1970 Maserati Ghibli Spyder SS, a 1971 Maserati Ghibli SS, a 2004 Maserati MC 12 and a 2007 Maserati Quattroporte Automatic.
To have Italian spiders thronging the streets of New York on a marked day in American History must have really been a heart warming spectacle, full kudos to the organizers who thought about it for it was an amalgamation that brought joy to the heart.
