Apparently, Fiat is preparing an Abarth Coupe based on the famed 500. According to Auto Express the coupe will be built on the 500’s platform and have the front engine – front wheel drive configuration. The coupe will not only share the 500’s platform, but will also get many components and switch gear from the car.
The coupe is expected to have a low-slung lightweight aluminum chassis, sloping headlights, huge front intakes, a removable roof panel and possibly a two-seater configuration as well. Power will come from a 1.4-l turbocharged engine that will provide 135bhp and 180Nm of torque. Another “esseesse” trim with 158 bhp engine under the hood is also a possibility. If the news is indeed true, expect the coupe to debut in 2010 and go on sale in 2011 with a price tag in the range of £12,000.
