The General Motors ally Pontiac is as confused as us whilst predicting a future Muscle Car at a time when the new regulations want the manufacturers to satiate the 35mpg rule by 2020. The Company popular for its V8 engine, for that is the best they have, isn’t sure about the engines future thus, to talk about a Muscle car is a worst illusion.
How do they challenge the odds with their G8 already put to shame, by GMs another ally Holden’s release, the Coupe 60. Coupe 60 is an E85 capable car making it a brighter option considering the mpg requisitions. If you get what I am hinting at, it could be a big disappointment for the Australian Muscle Car fanatics who have already started hailing it as the next big thing.
If they opt for a performance based car and try to incorporate economy in the V8 engine, the R&D work itself would take the manufacturing costs very high, ultimately defeating the affordable offering ideology of the company.
Where does Pontiac go from here is one of the most interesting questions of the automotive industry at present. If it all boils down to the confusion of using the Coupe 60 logistics, the heartbreak could mean Holden losing its repute further in Australia. The only bright way out can be GMs astute intervention, but would they intervene is another unresolved mystery at the first place.
