While Europeans have already seen the Smart Car, Americans will have to wait just a bit while to get their hands on it. DaimlerChrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche is certain on the US launch. He says:
At the moment, the tendency is clearly positive.
However, the tiny Smart is quite a contrast to the American taste and one wonders how well it would be accepted. Putting many fears aside — let me inform you that the car has passed all US Crash and Safety Standards with grades higher than most large SUVs. Therefore, if you are looking forward to saving your money - I recommend this one.

The Smart Cars are already available in the US from ZAP www.zapworld.com ZP (NYSE). A California based company who is also planning on brining a Brazilian made car to the US, the Obvio! 828, that is a hybrid that can run on any combination of ethanol and gas. Zap is also the only car company who is selling a Chinese manufactured car in the US the 100% electric Xebra city car.
