The Audi R8, 2008 version was spied few days back ... that time it was predictably difficult to praise or criticize this sports sedan, as only a few flicks were available and there were few guesses about the semblance of the exterior .
This sedan has now been unveiled with full information available and I know believe there is hardly a car critic who will find deficiencies in this one... it a job well done!
This one is Audi’s first ever mid - engine sports car. It has a 420 hp, V 8 engine with an all wheel drive system. Its credentials position it squarely with renowned sports cars like Porsche 911, BMW M6 and Aston Martin Vantage.
This car does 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds. The V8 engine generates a peak torque of 430 Nm from 4,500 to 6,000 rpm. This engine manages to maintain 90% of this torque consistently throughout a wide engine speed range from 3,500 all the way upto 7,600 rpm.
The top speed of this car is 301km/h and the maximum engine speed is 8,250 rpm. To add to all the race care features there is sound, similar to that of a racecar. There are two gear -transmission options available: a manual 6-speed gearbox or the optional Audi-R Tronic Sequential gearbox.
As it is a sporty sedan, the interior is dominated by the driver-oriented cockpit architecture. The instrument panel above the console is angled towards the driver. The steering is flat-bottomed, typical of an Audi sports car.
The Audi R 8 will be available for sale by the first half of 2007 in the US and Europe and will be priced between 80,000 to 1,10,000 USD .
