City [Zen] vehicle concept has come up with an interesting and innovative framework for urban cars that might alter the way cars are being built. The concept stems from the fact that most modern cities are becoming more and more congested in regards to parking space for vehicles. Hence the designers have come up with an idea that could change the way people conventionally perceive driving and parking. Instead of changing the inner space of the car permanently to make it smaller and congested (as in the case of most, popular small cars in the market) it just adjusts the dynamics of the car as per the need.
City [Zen] can adapt to various drive conditions because it has en engine-body transformation system that allows the car to modify according to the needs. The car’s transformation system is based on mechanical parts without any robotic systems. City [Zen] can change its body position according to speed and the situation on the road. This involves the three basic modes in the car.
These basic modes include highway mode, city mode and parking mode and all of these make perfect logical sense. In case of the highway mode, the car has a long wheel base, good aerodynamics and a lower focal point. This obviously is going by the basic aerodynamic principles, which one would be very familiar with if one were skiing. Low center of gravity and better aerodynamics surely help long distance travel.
The city mode has a short wheel base, a high point of view, and higher sitting for the driver. Parking mode allows the vehicle to occupy very small parking spaces thanks to the more vertical configuration of the car’s body. This means that one can change according to the need. The position of the driver and the car are in unison and make for both wonderful and comfortable experience. The entire concept is really alluring and as I stated earlier, takes you back to either skiing or skating. In modern city conditions, the car would be a real bliss to handle.
