This is the most incredible thing that one can get to hear on a space which is dedicated to covering and promoting cars. But then this should go down as the single biggest example of how unbiased we are in doing our job. (Come on, it is rare that we ever get a chance to brag, let us have our moment). Fines, since we have had our moment, now for the matter on hand. To celebrate ‘Earth Day’ a group has got together and has made a unique and special petition pleading with the world to say to no to cars. (Huh... Like that is going to ever happen!)
To make sure that we reduce on the pollution and we take it easy on the planet, they want us to get rid of cars totally. They have taken a car, painted it white and have signed under a petition and all over the car which says that the world does not need anymore cars. Here is how it goes;
We the undersigned do hereby demand that not one more dollar go to promote, support, or perpetuate car culture. We want bike lanes, public transit and a train system. We want our public space back. We want local food, clean air, sustainable industry, a livable future for our children, and an end to oil wars. We want to dance in the street. We want a government that values life over money.
I suppose that long list of demands means that they will also need to give up on electricity which is produced from fossil fuel burning, plastic goods, batteries and a whole lot of other stuff too. The group’s formal petition asks the government of Ontario to redirect the tax-dollars spent on the auto industry towards expanding public transit, developing an integrated train system, and investing in pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure. The petition also asks the government to begin the process of weaning our economy off the automobile industry by shifting Ontario’s labor force into sustainable transportation sectors.
I suppose this is not really going to help the image of the Canadians too much around here. The intent is pretty noble, but the path is lunatic. We sure need green technologies and fuels but not a day where we do not use cars. All I can tell them is “Speak for yourself guys”.
