In case you thought diesel powered cars are no match for those that run on gasoline, Audi just proved you wrong. Audi has introduced the R8 V12 TDI at Detroit. Based on the formidable R8, the new concept runs on diesel, producing greater power and increased fuel efficiency.

The V12 TDI powerhouse in the concept generates a massive 500hp of power and a huge 1,000 Nm of torque. Moving from a standing start, the 62mph mark is reached in just 4.2 seconds, keep up on the accelerator and you can go past the 300 kmph mark. This powerhouse is compliant with the upcoming Euro VI emission standards.

The appearance ofcourse is striking. Exterior has accentuated wheel arches and larger air apertures. Sideblade in the concept has become wider and also serves the function of an air deflector. A continuous aluminium spoiler connects the front and rear diffusers with side air baffles below the enlarged sills. Passenger compartment gets a glass roof with two large transparent sections. The V12 TDI powerhouse is can be seen clearly in the monocoque design. An option available is to line this engine ‘showroom’ with genuine carbon fiber.
