Designer Chang Ting Jen’s entry at the International Bicycle Design Competition truly takes the functionality of the ever-popular bicycle up another notch. Christened the Backpack Bicycle, the foldaway concept looks and functions just like a normal bike with the obvious exception that it can be folded away and carried around in a handy backpack measuring just 60cm in length.

The concept claims to be a ‘backpack, a bicycle and a handcart, too’, and weighing in at a mere 5.5 kg makes a great case for using plastics in the main frame instead of metals. Fully equipped with a head light, a brake light and turn signals, the bike targets workers, travelers on a budget, and basically just about anyone who wants to take a green turn and not sell his soul to the devil to pay for exorbitantly-priced-gas!

Hey Asmita,
This one’s really nice. Usage of renewable sources of energy is ofcourse the idea started to be taken seriously now. This is one of the initial steps taken for the future. And this BackPack Bicycle concept is a treat for the back, atleast.
Cheers
