The European car of the year committee has short listed eight contenders who will compete in the final battle for the most coveted car title in Europe i.e. Best car of the Year 2007.
Conventionally seven contenders make to the final round but this year the number is eight, the reason for the extension being the organizers indecisiveness to chose the unlucky one to be eliminated before the final round, thus they persuaded with eight contenders. The total number of contenders chosen at the beginning was 41.
The nominees are: Citroen C4 Picasso, Fiat Grande Punto, Ford S-Max, Honda Civic, Opel Corsa, Peugeot 207, Skoda Roomster and Volvo C30 .
This competition dates back to 1964 and the first car to win this title was Rover 2000 (p6). Fiat has won this competition 8 times closely followed by Renault at 6. Few nominees like Volvo, Honda and Skoda haven’t tasted victory in this competition ever since its existence. However, Honda stands a solid chance, courtesy, Honda Civic.
November 13 will be the big day for one of these eight compatriots, as the winner will be crowned on this date.
