Now I do not understand what is actually wrong with the Lotus Esprit as it is something that is pretty much the dream of every driver who wishes to pamper his senses. But I suppose some people just can never get enough of the good stuff and that is exactly why they have decided to make sure that they add a lot more to the Esprit under the hood. So what did these wise men of the auto world actually do? Well, they made sure that their Lotus Esprit was powered by the monstrous V8 engine from an Audi.
British sports car firm updated the iconic Esprit with an all-new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V8 to give it more of a fighting chance of showing up cars like the Ferrari 355 and Porsche 911 Turbo. Now, I am a big fan of Audi and so I really do not have too much of a problem with this new feature. It is like having the best of both worlds and that should get many excited. But that was all back in 1996. Times have changed and so have the demands of people along with it.
Now the guy who calls himself ‘Hilly’ apparently just wasn’t satisfied with the engine in his ‘81 Esprit S3. So he yanked it out and painstakingly swapped in the all-aluminum 4.2-liter V8 from the Audi A8. Although the Esprit’s engine bay could accommodate the engine, turning it around and squeezing it in there was no mean feat, requiring the project’s undertaker to custom fabricate a slew of parts himself. It truly is one tough feat with damn sweet results. I am sure he is enjoying the surging power beneath his feet now!
