There are many cars and bikes that are these days are being designed drawing inspiration from nature and its spectacular designs that surround us. From being inspired by the fastest land animal, to the Gecko, we have seen it all earlier. But this one is a lot sleeker and it is a structure that looks good both cool and is great for the planet too. Within its compact footprint, this Finnish design offers space for three people, placed so that they do not directly interfere with driver tasks, and a variable outside storage solution for bulky items like two bicycles.

The name Biohive is derived from its frame structure that utilizes principles of bio-mimicry, and to reflect the social aspects of the vehicle, which, as Timonen describes: “the ‘Hive’ character is emphasized with each passenger’s individual comfort zones, and in how the parked vehicle turns into a micro lounge for small social private space in heart of city”. Biohive was notable for receiving the highest score for ‘innovative and functional glazing design solutions’. The designer seems to have really kept a close eye on symmetry of nature’s creations.

The Biohive is not just something that is pretty wonderful in regards to the aerodynamics and design aspects but is also pretty nice towards the planet. Seems like we are turning more and more towards nature for inspiration these days!
