Normally one would associate BMW with glitz, style and gadgets. While it might never get to be the elusive third member in the elite panel of the McLaren-Ferrari strata, it will always be the next best thing available. While I’m sure plenty out there would disagree with that pecking order of mine, for me it holds well.
BMW has now decided to compete in the small cars category aggressively by launching a wonderful little car that is made for city use and will be exclusively marketed as the ‘City Car’. Many close to the BMW stables also believe that the company is ready to re-launch a more modern version of the ‘Isetta’ brand of cars. This would surely be the best thing to have happened since a long time as it adds both a sense of history and utility to the car. Such a renewal will surely have many takers.
The car is going to be powered by small turbocharged petrol and diesel engines and will not use hybrid fuel or a fuel cell so as to ensure a reduction in cost. It will live up to the latest emission standards and will comply with the environmental standards. The car is set to hit the markets soon and would be positioned below the Mini despite a similar length. The car would be built by Magna-Steyr but the engines and powertrains would come from BMW. We will just wait and watch if this is really going to work out for the automobile giant.
