Though hybrids have an edge over diesel cars in US, yet Germany’s renowned carmaker BMW is making plans to sell diesel-powered cars in US as Americans are more open to the fuel now, says BMW sales and marketing head Michael Ganal. If things go smoothly, these cars are expected to storm into the US markets within two years.
Such diesel cars from BMW will also use a urea based additive so that it meets the strict emissions standards, which according to Ganal, would take another two years. Currently available diesel cars in US are:
Passenger cars
Volkswagen Golf
Volkswagen Jetta
Volkswagen Jetta Wagon
Volkswagen New Beetle
Volkswagen Passat ( April 2004)
Mercedes E-320 sedan (April 2004)
2005 Mercedes-Benz E Class E320 CDI
2004 Volkswagen Touareg TDI
Sport utility vehicles
Volkswagen Touareg SUV (2004)
Chrysler Jeep Liberty ( Fall 2004)
2005 Jeep Liberty CRD
Pickup trucks
Chevy Silverado
GMC Sierra
Dodge Ram
Ford E-series, F-series
Diesels are known for giving better mileage and price but remains unpopular among the Americans due to its non-performance. However, a brand as popular as BMW, I believe can afford to take this risk.

Soon, this list would not only be adding the BMW diesel cars but it would also be including the diesel version of the Audi TT.
This is what I’ve been waiting for from BMW. Just send in those diesel vehicles of yours here in America.
