It is the hybrid vehicle that is all set to make a grand entrance in the coming years; if it has not done so already. The all new hybrids are making quite an impact in the market and that is going to put a lot more pressure on engine makers to think in the direction of multiple fuel options. The year 2010 should mark the arrival of a low-profile hybrid SUV from a company dubbed as one of the most exciting cars on the planet - the BMW.
The new BMW X6, initially dubbed the Active-Hybrid, will land along the side of its conventionally-powered equal and become available some time in 2009. Only one version of it will be offered - the same 4.4L turbocharged V-8 that will be found in the straight-petrol version. The new engine will be coupled to nickel metal hydride battery and will be BMW’s first application of the two mode hybrid system that is being developed along with GM, Daimler and Chrysler. It might not have an active fuel system but that too might not be too far away.
The BMW X6 is one of those in the long line of cars that actually aims to pave a green path towards the future of automobile industry. It is no surprise then that many believe that the car will be a difference maker without a shadow of a doubt. Here is hoping for the same.
