Boeing is moving forward to detect unexploded bombs and IEDs. The company aims to neutralize these threats by using a strong laser beam, mounted atop a Humvee. Boeing has developed its ‘Laser Avenger’ system in just eight months.
Boeing has tested the technology with 1KW laser mounted on an anti-aircraft Humvee. The laser shoots a high-energy invisible beam that is just a few centimeters in diameter, the beam cut through the casing of artillery and mortars like a hot knife on butter, detonating them instantly.
The technology offers to remove threats before they get anywhere close to a convoy, Boeing has hinted that this technology may be used as anti-aircraft and anti-missile weapon in the future.
