As legendary cars go, the Auto Union Type D racecar of 1938-39 was the last Audi, powered by a V12, a powerhouse then seen in an Audi again only in 2006. The Type D raced in the European Grand Prix in 1938 and 1939, and its V12 had about 3-liters of displacement and a power rating close to 500hp. Chassis #19 will be auctioned by Bonhams and Butterfield on August 14 in California. It is expected to go for a hefty $8 million.
