German company SR-Simulationscenter GmbH has created a car simulator that feels almost like the real thing. Built on a real car platform, the simulator sits slightly above the ground. To create a realistic effect for the ‘driver’, the windscreen is covered by a 40-inch widescreen plasma display, there’s a 550W 5.1 surround sound system and variable motion dynamics.
The driver gets into the simulator as he would enter a car; the simulator offers a close to real world driving experience, the driver is able to feel bumps in the road, crashes and other factors that would happen in real world driving. A fun feature included is a racecam/drivecam that takes pictures of the participating driver, the person may then choose to get a printout of these pictures.
The company claims that the simulator can be customized according to the customer’s wishes and simulate another car. They recently converted an M3 to use its technology.
