‘Hot Rod’- I can’t but talk about Rowdy Rowdy Piper the moment you mention that. But we won’t discuss about that further. There is something about antique stuff that has great appeal to all of us. But then if you do not know about the value of the object and more importantly if you do not value tradition itself, then it can mean little. I suppose the ones that are most valuable are the ones with which we associate our personal memories. Most of us value things a lot more than they actually are worth just because we have a bundle of ‘bitter sweet’ memories associated with them. It is just like me treasuring my first cell phone and never wanting to sell it.
To commemorate its 80 anniversary, the brand Swedish Volvo has commissioned the construction of a vehicle with a classic taste, Caresto Hot Rod Jakob. The car is a journey back in time and it provides you with a design and styling that automatically takes you back to the early days of cars. To make this vehicle, reminiscent of the first American utility has been used the body of a Volvo OV4 1927. The difference with the cars of the time is the engine of course. The new turbocharged T5 with technology of Flexfuel, which can operate simultaneously with conventional gasoline and E85 and that, is associated with a gearbox M90, also done by the house Volvo, manual and five speeds.
The car is obviously not the same as the old ones in terms of feel and understandably so. The new car comes with classic styling and an engine designed to match the best of the modern day. Well, not the best, but still is good enough. But the car has a look that will appeal to the older folks than the younger. Being a commemorative piece, it probably will not be produced in large numbers. While that is what one would think, in fact the car is not for sale at all. This design, by Leif Tufvesson, will be affixed to the Volvo Museum in Gothenburg after exhibited in the United States and Scandinavia.
