Compressed Natural Gas is without a shadow of a doubt the cleanest and the most efficient fossil fuel available today. It is bringing about an automobile revolution that has already taken over most of Western Europe, but is still finding it hard to break in to the conventional markets of USA. While many believe that USA is today at the cutting edge of science and technology, it is another testament to the fact that modern science has always found it’s most favorable breeding ground in Europe over the past few centuries. But the reason on ground is that there just are not enough refilling stations for CNG across the US.

The Cevennes was recently unveiled in Geneva and it updates the classic lines of the Porsche 356 and gives it a modern 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that cranks out 150 horsepower. The car with its retractable roof in green simple looks stunning to say the least. It has a very classic look to it and comes with amazing styling and wonderful modern features and amazingly comfortable interiors.

The Cevennes has a top speed of 130 mph, and the car races from zero to 62 mph in 6.5 seconds. While that may not be awesome, it is not too bad for a car with the style and the fuel that this one carries. The car carries about 48 pounds of compressed natural gas and has a range of 280 miles. It offers a wide option for the consumers and it really is as clean as a modern car could get without the Hydrogen fuel cell.

The Cevennes burns 4.6 kilos of CNG every 100 kilometers, which is equivalent to 16.2 mpg. It emits 118 g/km of carbon dioxide, which is well below the European average of 160 g/km. The car is not just a step forward in technology but also towards a greener future. Now only if people across the planet can realize the fact that this is one of the viable options for future. Installing enough CNG filling stations so as to encourage the spread of this technology would help taking it forward a great deal. The vehicle is priced at $70,000 for now.
