Choosing the right color for your car is not going to be grueling detail anymore, with a new technology under development, you could change the color of your vehicle to suit the occasion; all you have to do is, press a button.
Scientists have developed a new coating called paramagnetic paint, which has the ability to change color. Nissan is said to be looking keenly at this technology and car that change color may on the streets as early as 2010.
In this process, a special polymer containing paramagnetic iron oxide particles is applied to the car’s body. A continuous electric current adjusts the spacing of small crystals within iron oxide particles; this spacing of the crystals is responsible for the color the coating takes. Spacing between the crystals, and hence the color can be changed by application of current at different levels. In absence of current, the vehicle returns to its default color, white.
The process takes less than one second and can be any color visible to the human eye.
