Dutch designers Frans Hegge and Thijs Van Der Zanden have got together to design a car that aims to take in-car safety to an all new high. This concept called the Chess Car featured at the Michelin Design Challenge 2008, looks more like a bulldozer minus the retractable load arms rather than a car. If you are wondering, why this car has taken inspiration from a bulldozer, it has because it’s cabin, like that of a bulldozer is placed on a platform.

But the big change in the Chess Car is that, this movement we are talking about is primarily on impact. When the Chess Car is involved in an accident, the cabin shifts to the place where there is minimal impact, thus isolating it’s occupants to the forces of impact that occur during the accident. Though the Chess Car is still a concept, if successful, it could be used to make cars of the future a lot safer. Let’s hope that happens at the earliest!
