One of the best automakers in India, Mahindra & Mahindra has made it public its plans to invest $435 million in a plant to build a new mid-price utility vehicle. The company is a former Ford partner and the largest maker of utility vehicles in India.
The new SUV would be known as Ingenio when it launches in late 2007 or early 2008. It would also be priced between the current two doing well SUV’s $11,000 Bolero and the $15,000 Scorpio.
Though mid priced, will it stand a chance against the $2,200 family wagon expected from Tata? Seem like Mahindra & Mahindra is taking on a losing battle. The cars will hit markets at the same time too.
