When it comes to cars and automobiles, its no-holds-barred going green. From engines to interiors, from frames to fuel, we have achieved the green face just about everywhere, excepting for the tires. Till now petroleum-based rubber particles called carbon black went into filling the rubber tires, to improve strength and resistance, but Lei Jong and Jeffrey Byars, researchers from Agricultural Research Service, are working on a green and more environmentally conscious solution for tire fillers. The auto researchers intend to use defatted soy flour with rubber latex. While t is still a long road before we fill tires with soybeans, but at least we have something to look forward to!
