Skyrocketing fuel prices don’t seem to be having an effect on the drivers in UK. A survey commissioned by Esure has found that drivers are willing to pay more for fuel, just for the pleasure and comfort of driving their own car.
The survey finds that fuel prices or even fuel economy don’t figure in the list of top priorities for drivers in the UK. The British are willing to part with £1.83 a liter, more than double the present cost of petrol before they start scurrying for alternative modes of transport.
There is more to what the survey found; 55% of the drivers are in no mood to give up their vehicles, no matter what level the fuel prices reach. 79% of those surveyed had not cared to change their driving styles to get better fuel economy and 37% do not want to swap their present vehicles for a more fuel-efficient version.
It is commonly believed that ever increasing fuel prices and pollution have led many drivers down the green path, but this survey has come as an eye opener. Though limited to motorists in Britain, the survey does give a peek into the mindset of drivers worldwide.
European nations have put in great efforts to popularize low pollution vehicles and cleaner fuels, but clearly, there is still a lot to be done before drivers actually go for alternate transport or cleaner vehicles.
