European arm of Ford will launch its new range of ECOnetic models at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The ECOnetic range has extremely low carbon emissions at 115g/km.

The first model to be introduced in the ECOnetic range will be the Focus. ECOnetic version of the Focus will deliver the best CO2 emissions in its class. Common-rail diesel powertrains will be used in conjunction with other features to reduce CO2 emissions.

Ford Focus ECOnetic will be powered by a 109PS, 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi engine with standard Diesel Particulate Filter. This car will also go soft on fuel with an average consumption of 4.3 l/100km. Fuel economy has been achieved by lowering the vehicle, adding an aerodynamics kit and using 195/65R15 tyres. All this helps in lowering the drag coefficient, which in turn, increases fuel economy.

Another feature in the ECOnetic range is the use of new low-viscosity transmission oil developed by BP. The new transmission oil reduces driving resistance. Ford found this oil to be highly efficient and it will now feature in Ford products in the C and CD segments.

Most European nations have incentives for clean vehicles. Low emissions from this vehicle will make it eligible for these incentives, and may help generate popularity for the ECOnetic range. A plus for the ECOnetic range is that the Focus will be the first vehicle; given the popularity of Focus in Europe, it may very well provide a strong ground for other ECOnetics that will follow.
