Trainees at the Sindelfingen Mercedes-Benz plant are evidently stuck in a warp zone between the archaic and the neologic eras of the iconic brand. We couldn’t come up with a more reasonable explanation for this cart-shaped state-of-the-art machine that runs on magnified cycle spokes. The F-CELL (yes, the car (t) is fuel-cell powered) Roadster is unique and creative as a matter of fact. However, the practicality in logic is beyond comprehension since we live in an age of ‘idea justification’. A little on the background…over 150 trainees and students of the company’s dual education system labored hard for a year on conceptualizing an alternative drive system.

The result is a blend of the old and the new – carbon-fiber bucket seats enveloped in handmade leather covers, a fiberglass fore based on F1 cars, a joystick for the steering, and the revolutionary drive-by-wire technology of today. The F-CELL churns out 1.2kW of power and offers 350kms tops. With a maximum speed of 25km/h, you can spare the pain of visiting a helmet shop.
