Fiat Group Automobiles and Microsoft will showcase their ‘Eco Drive’ system at Frankfurt. This system works with Blue&Me to provide the driver with his driving data and tips to improve driving.
With the Eco Drive, Fiat also demonstrates that the role of the automaker does not end when the car leaves the production line, but must continue into the way consumers drive.
Official fuel consumption and emission figures of cars come from cars being driven by professional drivers under controlled conditions, they can vary drastically in real world driving conditions. Eco Drive collects data relating to vehicle efficiency and transmits it into a USB key through Blue&Me’s USB gate.
The system gives the driver a detailed report on environmental performance of the car that includes CO2 emissions for each trip. This is clubbed with certain suggestions and tips for the driver to increase efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions, which translates into better fuel efficiency and reduced fuel bill.
An online community site will be launched where drivers will be encouraged to pool in their savings and work together to achieve greater collective targets. Little improvements in every single driver can have a great impact on CO2 emissions worldwide.
