As we are seeing a slew of microcars being announced from various manufacturers, can the the big momma of them all be left behind? Yes we are talking about Fiat, the maker of the original microcar, the legendary Fiat 500. Fiat has just announced its re-entry into the practical space saving, microcar segment with the Topolini. Incidentally Topolini is the name of another micro car that Fiat produced way back in 1937. Coming to the Topoloni of this day and age, this cute looking micro car will have plenty of innovation to make it relevant in this day and age.
Power will come to its rear wheels via an engine with options of a naturally aspirated 65HBhp or a turbocharged 105Bhp. This engine that will sit at the Topolini’s rear, just below the boot. This, along with flexible seating options will liberate considerable space for the cars occupants and will also help Fiat’s engineers package the Topolini innovatively. Watch out for the turbo-engine that will make the ultra light Topolini a real hoot to drive. Meanwhile, Fiat engineers are also developing a petrol-electric hybrid engine that might just find its way into the Topoloni. That’s pretty much about the Topolini which is likely to hit roads tentatively in 2010.
