At the 2006 Paris Auto Show, Volkswagen showed a bright metallic green concept car called the Iroc. VW also mentioned that a production model was planned to follow. Now these latest photos from Death Valley capture a prototype of the new coupe as it undergoes hot weather testing.
The new VW is likely to be named the Scirocco, reviving the name of a sporty hatchback coupe that Volkswagen sold here in the US from 1975 to 1981. Even the concept car’s name, the Iroc, is taken from the middle part of the name Scirocco.
The new Scirocco is expected to keep the bold, aggressive look of the Iroc. Under the skin, the Scirocco will share the powertrain and platform of the Volkswagen Eos convertible.
