Tottering times for the Detroit auto giant, Ford Motor Co, never seem to disappear like a passing shower for the company, indeed the situation is as intensified as the Tsunami, forget a comparison with the passing by downpour. Yet, as a ray of sunlight, there are occurrences, which keep Ford going, and the latest one to add to such heartwarming accomplishments is the Car of the Year Award bagged by the Mondeo, compiled by Auto Express.

They are tottering for sure, but then one thing, which is swelling for them apart from the loss graph, is the number of awards in the pergola. Literally out of the blues, as though mocking on Fords’ recent achievements at least in the US, the Mondeo manages to bring home the Auto Express Car of the Year Award.

Car of the year wasn’t the sole award it bagged, the best family car and the best estate car laurels were bagged by Ford Mondeo too. Auto Express is UK’s top selling weekly auto magazine so the degree of fortitude with which these decisions were made public cannot be dubbed bogus.

The testers from Auto express believe that the new Ford Mondeo symbolizes a novel class of family cars. It managed to win hearts for the family car award because of its revamped looks, bigger cabin and a refined driving experience. Another laudable fact was the aspect that it had the most uncontroversial exterior, despite making a style statement.

Even for the best estate nobility, credentials like ‘big, practical and superb at carrying stuff’ came good.

Editor-in-chief of Auto Express, David Johns, quipped:

The Mondeo delivers effortlessly, performing with aplomb everywhere. It steers beautifully, rides with a composure and smoothness that’s absent from even the best German executive cars, handles tautly and has a great range of engines. It’s also vast inside, beats its rivals for quality, is clearly laid out with great refinement and comfort levels to take the sting out of everyday driving.

I wish Ford could manage to please customers likewise in the US, which is where the original stakes of the company lie and off late the company credentials have been seriously dented. What bothers me is the fact that if they can manage to secure praise outside the US, then why it isn’t lauded there. Does it have something to do with the American attitude or is the company, which does not make timely amends as they do elsewhere.
