Finally here is one road going 3-wheeled car and no, this has not been unveiled at the Geneva motor show. The SUB G1 is a brand new three wheeled performance contraption that will be at race in Manhattan’s traffic infested bylanes as well as the Salt flats at Indianapolis. Niki Smart, Jay Brett and Nick Mynott have come together to create this runabout and in the process have co-founded the SUB.
The most striking thing about the G1 on first glance is its 3 wheels, with 2 wheels front and 1 back, and a cabin which can seat just one adult. Sounds more like a formula one car but with 3 wheels. Yes, the G1 is designed to be a road legal easy handling urban performance runabout which lets you have some fun on your way to work and for those of you having racer genes, you can go trackside on weekends.
The Diminutive G1 just measures a tad over 2 metres at 2.3metres and a track of 1.6 metres and weighs in at a very light 350 kilos. This makes it just about perfect to scratch around urban back roads like a motorcycle. The motorcycle bit goes further into the engine, in the form of a suzuki v-twin 1000cc 135bhp at 9500 rpm with a 6speed manual transmission and motorcycle tyres.
That is quite a lot of power for the very light G1. An aluminium spaceframe chassis is rounded off with forged aluminium wheels for that hot look. To make the G1 handle like a dream, the designer trio have made sure that the weight distribution is just perfect with a 50-50 distribution. Disc brakes, seat belts and all other conventional car features make it to the G1. The best part is saving on the road tax and insurance since the 3 wheeled G1 is considered to be a motorcycle. One note of caution though, whatever you do, don’t park your G1, downhill though, because it doesn’t have a reverse gear. You might have to then use some good old muscle power.
