German Car manufacturers create some of the most coveted and elegant cars in the world, but when it comes to emissions, they are pretty close to the bottom of the barrel. A study carried out by the Transport and Environment (T&E) group claims that among all major companies that manufacture cars in Europe, brands from Germany are the worst in emission improvement.
This study considers models from years 2005 and 2006 to show emission change/improvement comparisons over the said period. Daimler posted the worst results in the bunch, CO2 output from its cars went up by 6g/km between 2005 and 2006. BMW however, managed to show a little improvement, its cars exhale 4g/km less of the global warming bad boy CO2 during the same period.
The study says an average German car spews out 173g/km of CO2, up by 1g/km in the specified time period. T&E has put the blame for these results squarely on the increasing weight of German cars. Fiat managed to post the best average emission figures at 144g/km.
