Finally, we have it affirmed from GM; Rick Wagoner the man-in-charge announced that the Saturn Vue plug-in Hybrid would be commercially available, although the Company Chief mentioned no fixed period. This is one cohesive announcement from GM in a long-long time. The automotive experts consider this announcement important as Saturn Vue Green Line Plug-in has the impendence to attain double the Mileage of any Current SUV in the Market.
Wagoner Cited:
GM has begun work on a Saturn Vue plug-in hybrid production vehicle. The technological hurdles are real, but we believe they are also surmountable. I can’t give you a production date for our plug-in hybrid today. But, I can tell you that this is a top priority program for GM, given the huge potential it offers for fuel-economy improvement.
Apart from the plug-in Capabilities the Vue will characterisize a Lithium-ion Battery Technology, two interior permanent magnet motors and GM’s very own 3.6 Liter, V-6 gasoline engine with direct injection system. The Green-Line Saturn Vue will feature twin driving modes one for the city terrain and the other one for the Highways.
GM has big plans for the Hybrid Technology as its group vice president for Powertrain, Tom Stephens mentioned:
GM plans to introduce a new hybrid system annually for the next several years, each offering different levels of affordability, fuel savings and performance. This strategy will allow more consumers to benefit from our hybrid technologies, while providing the opportunity to reduce our country’s petroleum consumption.
This announcement must have given a lot of confidence to the GM shareholders who were facing the plight after Kirk Kerkorian dented GM by selling a huge amount of shares. I would definitely like to see how the GM shares fare in the stock market over the next few days.
