GM has stated that they want to become the world leader when it comes to green cars.

They have also commented that they want vehicles which make less or no use of fossil fuels.

Last month the company unveiled a new Volt electric car, which it hopes will go in production by 2010.

GM also stated that the fuel efficient technologies that are fuel cells and hybrid vehicles are not much of a cost effective option as the technology is expensive to produce and will take another couple of years to go cost effective.

The company did not make any comments about the cost of their new Volt car but said that some of the cost will be reduced by using a version of the body and the chassis system that provides the basis for GM’s compact cars such as Chevrolet Cobalt and Opel Astra.

This move from the company comes as all the countries specially America and Canada are passing strict regulations to all the auto-makers to reduce the amount of Greenhouse gas emissions in their cars.
