General Motors Corp. today started its state-of-the-art $10.2 million rollover testing facility in Milford. The lab is equipped with all the apparatus required to test the vehicle performance in ‘corkscrew’ or ‘ramp’ rollover event.

All models to be produced by the company will be subjected to various tests in this lab, which will provide with the data related to the performance devices such as side air curtains, roof structure and seat belt performance. In addition, the test measures the accuracy and timeliness of rollover sensing devices.

The company has plans to introduce rollover airbags in all GM new vehicles except convertibles by the year 2012. Before that, in 2010, all GM vehicles will be equipped with stability control systems.

After all this, I think these cars will be pretty safe to drive, which they already are.
