Green taxes may have to be carefully dealt with , ‘being a precarious issue’, but Mr. Gordon Brown is certain about the tax fate of 4×4 drivers and airplane travelers .He is preparing to hike the top rate of vehicle excise duty for the highest polluting vehicles including the four-wheel drives .
Forced by the urgency demanded to react against high-pollutants leading to global warming, the airplane travelers will also face a rise in the air passenger duty. Currently the flight travelers pay £5 duty for short flights and upto £40 for longer flights. The pre-budget report will be released on the 6th of December and Mr. Brown definitely wants to send a sturdy message.
Back in march, the taxes on the highest polluting vehicles were increased from £ 160 to £ 210 and the duties on the most environment friendly vehicles were totally nullified. Four months down the line, the MPs egged him on to act further on this issue.
The problem with increased taxes lies in the fact that this simultaneously retrieves the fuel tax escalator, which means the prices of petrol will swell up more than the inflation level and this very same issue caused a huge astir six years ago.
Is the UK govt. prepared to curb the possible commotion or will the policy be nullified , only time can tell but irrespective of all this one thing is for sure : Global warming is gaining threatening grounds and the govt has to do something to promote green vehicles, keeping aside the emotions of the general public they would have to make a decision before its too late !
