In a world that is full of uncertainties you can’t be sure of a single thing. There are many websites which propagate about Toyota’s go green claims and it is hard to swallow whatever they say apart from whatever the reality may be.
If we look at the companies stand for the new CAFÉ rules they totally look at a paradox with the companies ‘Go Green’ policy. As Toyota has kept a union of concerned looking scientists, the league of the Conservation voters, the national resources Defense Council and Friends of the Earth, with other prestigious organizations, the companies approach to oppose the new CAFÉ standards seems contradictory to all of the aforesaid.
The company somewhere seems backing off from its stand of a friend for the environment. According to Toyota there is no such technology to meet the stringent CAFÉ Standards but if we believe the National Academy of Science they claim that the technology for achieving the goal already exists.
Amongst all of this debate there comes a report from the National Highway Traffic Administration that the fleet wide fuel economy is on a decline when compared to its overall fuel economy 20 years back.
Does this mean that the company is hiding something and has joined hands with the Detroit three? Whatever may be the reason, Toyota’s opposition to the new CAFE standards is going under an inquiry in congress. It would be interesting to figure out whether it practices what it preaches and comes up with an agreement with the CAFÉ.
