finger vein authentication system
Over a decade, Finger vein authentication system has come into view in ATMs, computers and cardless payment systems where Hitachi is the name to be seen. This time their latest development puts the biometric security technology inside the steering wheel which allows the engine to start only for drivers whose finger vein patterns, the vehicle recognizes.

Hitachi first bought the finger vein authentication system technology in 2005. It featured a keyless car door lock that checks finger veins and opens only for the vehicle’s registered driver.

Hitachi’s steering wheel finger vein authentication system also works to perk up in-vehicle comfort when used with seats, mirrors and air conditioners that auto-adjust according to the preferences of the driver touching the wheel.

What’s more, the finger vein reader can also be used as a programmable multi-purpose switch that lets the driver perform different functions with different fingers like operating stereo, sunroof, and the navigation system while concentrating on the road and maintaining a normal grip on the wheel.

For the future, Hitachi believes that the technology could be used with on-board electronic payment systems that literally keep you in the driver’s seat while making secure payments at drive-thrus, as well as with services that let you pay for and download music and more while on the road.

The Finger vein authentication system would be displayed at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show and it could potentially be one of the finds of the show if not the find but I definitely have high hopes for even a crappy doodad got appreciated.
