This one is one of the most confusing tales of nomenclature in the modern day automotive history and if you add the nostalgic part associated with it, this could well be made into a good story for MGM’s next car cartoon edition.
I’ll do the first favour for the producer by naming the tale the Catalina Cousins and leave the rest to him. For the ones reading it here, it is getting a confusing tale so I’ll take the curtains off from my edition of the parable and explain it in simple terms by mentioning that the Australian made, Holden Ute will sell under the Pontiac Logo, as the G8 ST in the US after it’s expected debut at the North American International Auto Show, next year.
The information gives you quite a hint that GM is not keen on bringing to life the Caballero name for a car-based Pickup truck. The ST holds for a Sport Truck in the name G8 ST which makes the non-resurrection of Caballero all the more clear.
This is not the first time around that Pontiac has a Car-based pickup in its contingent for if one knows where El Catalina comes from or follows the collection of Jay Leno ardently, this shouldn’t be a mystery.
General Motors is keen to create a family of high-performance rear-wheel-drive cars in Pontiac’s portfolio by the end of this decade and Holden’s Ute fits in this category with the likes of 2008 G8 Sedan and Commodore wagon.
Although the debut is expected at the North American Auto fest, it is already known that the engine featuring in this Car-based pickup would be Holden’s new 6.0-liter Gen IV V8. No V6. Also, the price is expected to start at $31,000.
