Noxious fumes, dust, irritants, vehicular smoke, urban heat island effect; these are the combined result of bad public transportation and high usage of personal transport, especially cars. People usually avoid using public transportation either because the ride is uncomfortable or the service inefficient. Plagued with user-unfriendly, old buses, our transportation system may not even get a 1 on a scale of 10.
The answer is a sustainable public transportation with green engines. 3DMDD – Group Sustainability Project thought on these lines and have looked into the possibility of manufacturing buses which are green (read pollution free and environmental friendly), disabled-friendly, aesthetic and efficient as well. The concept has been decided to be kept not only sustainable but also affordable and thanks to which developing countries might be able to import these buses.
The new ticketing system conceived by the group also suggests the use of prepaid and post paid cards and the usage of debit/credit cards along with cash to buy these cards. Cards may be swiped in front of the driver and facilitate in faster passenger turnaround.
Green engines and sustainable public transportation may be the answer to the problem of pollution, over crowding, traffic snarls and, in a larger scheme of things, global warming.
