If you go to the McDonald’s Store and pick up your Happy Meal, then you might not really be wondering about who designed the next Hot Wheels of character that comes with it as a surprise but probably are thinking about if this next one will complete your collection. But the man to thanks for some of those millions of smiles over the years is Douglas Montgomery. Currently Vice President of Montgomery Design and its CTO, he has been responsible for the design of quite a few of those Hot Wheels rolling out of the Happy Meals!
Here are a couple of his designs that we unearthed and while there would be surely many more in which he would have been involved these look like some seriously Hot Wheels. Having always been a fan of the collection and having many of those still around, it is really wonderful to know the men behind the wheels and do not for one moment brush this off as a little toy as they are as good as any car designs in the world.
While Douglas has provided concepts and CAD data for a variety of toys for use in McDonald’s Happy Meals, including Hot Wheels cars and Bug’s Life characters he has been involved in more serious and landscape altering projects across the globe. While we will surely bring more from the ‘Montgomery Stable’ soon, for now enjoy the Hot Hot Wheels!
