The Swedish truck maker Volvo by 2009 wants mass produce hybrid diesel-electric truck engine. A statement from the company says, the engine will offer fuel savings up to 35 percent.

The diesel engine which supplements the electric motor as the speed rises will allow the truck to accelerate on electric power which ultimately leads to lower emissions, lesser fuel consumption and better noise levels. The new engine runs on both diesel and electric battery.

On roads with common breaking and accelerations the hybrid engine is expected to provide maximum fuel savings. The hybrid engine still is on R&D process and will take some time before it fits into trucks.
