Toyota has been steadily working on a successor for the Supra. The FT-HS concept the automaker displayed at the Detroit auto show in 2007 was the first step in that direction, and if all went well, the car could have debuted this year. That was not to be, the economy and the joint venture with Subaru slowed things a bit, but the car is still in the works.

According to rumors, the car will most likely reach the markets in 2011, and will be available in two variants. One will run on a 3.5-l V6, while the other variant will likely get GS450h’s 2GR-VSE 3.5-liter V6 mated to the JDM Crown Hybrid’s electric drive system. It is said that Toyota will show the next iteration for the FT-HS concept at the Tokyo Motor Show later this year, and the production model will debut next year, before finally going on sale in 2011.
