In case you have an interest in diesel hydrostatic drive motorcycles or hydrostatic trail bikes, there is some news for you. Students at the Aston University of England have designed a car in Solidworks that is definitely worth a look.

Students all over the world have come together in the designing of this car, as part of the Global Design Initiative(GDI) project. The car designed by the students has a steel spaceframe and is powered by a Honda 600cc motorcycle engine. The model has hydraulic steering and is also provided with a fully regenerative braking system.

Since the main reason for arranging the GDI project was to co-ordinate students from the world over to form teams to work on a single project, the final car-model they have come up with is not the quickest, with a top speed of only around 65 mph. However, the prime focus was not on designing a very speedy car either.

The hydrostatic drive racecar does have certain parts that can indeed function very well. Although the racecar is still only in a software design format at Solidworks, it might practically work in future, as indeed some other projects, using hydrostatic drives, have done.
